With the addition of experienced jury trial attorney Steve Cain, the law firm of Habbas & Associates continues its journey of a stronger and brighter future.
Steve graduated from St. Mary's College with a B.A. in Spanish and a B.S. in Economics. He speaks, reads and writes fluent Spanish. He graduated from Pepperdine University School of Law, has been licensed to practice law in California since 1983 and is also admitted to practice in the Ninth Circuit of the U.S. District Court. Prior to admission to the bar, he law clerked for 2 years at the legal department of a large California Automobile Insurance Company to learn the process of insurance defense. Steve is also a graduate of the Gerry Spence Trials Lawyers College and its post graduate programs as well.
Steve is a dedicated advocate for injured people and has conducted jury trials in 9 of the 58 California counties, over 50 jury trials in all. In the case of Ktait v Solid State Electronics, it was Steve who strategically put the case together from the beginning, conducted the discovery wars and took all of the depositions that culminated in an $8 million dollar verdict for the plaintiff in a trial conducted by J. Gary Gwilliam and Omar I. Habbas in San Jose. Although his many accomplishments are too numerous to list, Steve has been the lead attorney in a $492,000 jury verdict in Sacramento County, a $120,000 verdict in San Joaquin County and a $3,500,000.00 judgment for child molestation in Stanislaus County. Steve has been the lead attorney in many trials that lasted over a month and he has conducted 3 civil rights lawsuits against police departments for excessive force. He obtained a $450,000.00 settlement against a nursing home for mistreatment of a patient with a broken leg and won a final arbitration award of $330,000.00against Kaiser Permanente in a highly contested case for medical malpractice that left a young man with 24% high tone hearing loss. He also obtained a $500,000.00 settlement against Los Angeles County for the wrongful death of a young mother at Martin Luther King, Jr. General Hospital.
Steve is a member of the San Joaquin County and Stanislaus County Bar Associations as well as the Consumer Attorneys of California.
